July 8, 2024 - Mid-Term long Form Assignment
There are many things I learned from watching the two videos.
First, I was surprised the first video(How large is Tokyo? | Biggest city in the world).
I don't remember, but it seems that I lived in Itabashi Ward in Tokyo when I was little and now, I live in Kanagawa, so I thought I knew a little about the city. However, I did not know that the Greater Tokyo area included Chiba, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Kanagawa, Tokyo, and Yamanashi. I was also surprised that it is surrounded by mountains!
In addition, I was most impressed by the stations compared to the rest of the country. I thought it was amazing that the people who built the stations were able to meticulously build them underground.
Second, I was interested the second video(Hilarious Japanese apartment names).
I had never felt uncomfortable about Japanese apartment names, because I didn't care about them and didn't know what they meant.
I didn't think there were so many that could be divided into five categories to begin with, and many of the meanings surprised me.
I like apartments named “Maison de”. I think the name sounds nice and cool. I looked up the meaning for the first time and found that it means "house of 〇〇" in French. The meaning was not that cool... 😶

I think Japan is unique and it is interesting that there are some things that I am proud of and sensationally strange when compared to the rest of the world.
It is fun to see perspectives in this way that I would not notice if I were in Japan!
Yes, Maison just means house. It is not that exciting! 18/20
